This, I thought, would solve the problem with forced HDR which looks terrible on a 300nits TV. But nay. Turning off HDR reduces the maximum resolution of Prime Video to mere 720p and Disney Plus to 1080p. Anyone know a fix?

WebNov 19, 2024 · So on Fire TV Stick 4K there are only two dynamic range settings: “Always HDR” and “Adaptive” which switches between SDR and HDR automatically depending on the content. So it seems that there is no way of disabling HDR completely. I guess same is true for the new Google TV dongle. WebGotcha. Yeah some use 8 some use 10 Bit. I was told to always have it set to 8 bit and when HDR engages it will automatically change to 10 bit. Anyway with regards to HDR you have to keep it on adaptive cause if you keep it always on for HDR then HDR displays all the time In SDR content and in the firestick UI. I always keep it at adaptive 😊

While it can be annoying having the PJ resync to HDR and frame rate changes when changing content, this lets the display handle 24Hz conversions. I have the firestick set to 10 bit since that color depth eliminates the banding that 12 bit causes to my UHD65 PJ.
WebDec 17, 2024 · I have same issue with washed out colors on my new FireStick 4K Max on Kodi with 4k UHD contents to my 1080p Sony TV or FullHD video projector. I don't have that issue on my old Firestick 4k. Tried all settings, Always HDR, Adaptive, No HDR, RGB, YCbCr. It appears to be present only on Kodi not on Netflix or other streaming apps i use.
